Jodie Nicholson is an artist and producer from Hurworth-on-Tees, now based in Newcastle. For fans of Daughter, Matt Corby and The National, her offering is a brooding sad-pop, weaving between mellow indie, chamber-pop and electro soundscapes. Inspired by prog rock and artists that change sonically with each album, her writing is free-form and intuitive, with her sincere, reed-like vocals remaining a compelling constant. Awardee of PRS Foundation's 'Women Make Music', Help Musicians' 'Do it Differently' and Sentric's Academy Fund, her career excelled throughout the pandemic with releases produced remotely by Tim Bran (London Grammar, Aurora, Birdy). Nicholson’s releases have earned her a deserved place on BBC Radio 6 Music playlist, Best of BBC Introducing 2020 on Radio 1 and Amazing Radio’s A-List, alongside airplay across BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Introducing. Following the return of live shows, Nicholson has graced festivals including Wilderness main stage, All Points East, The Alt Escape, Cambridge Folk Festival, Liverpool Sound City, Live at Leeds and Long Division. To-date, she has supported Emeli Sandé, Tom Rosenthal, Bernard Butler, Skinny Living, The Howl & The Hum, Nathan Ball and Benedict Cork at sold-out shows, as well as tour dates with Nerina Pallot. In 2021, Sage Gateshead x Northern Music Trust commissioned the soloist to form a band and headline Sage 2 for their debut show. Since then, the four-piece became the first performers at Sunderland's new venue, The Fire Station, played Nicholson's first UK headline tour in 2022 as part of Independent Venue Week, and festival slots including Generator Live, Y Not and Twisterella. With 2023 spent writing and honing her craft, this year (2024) will see the release of Nicholson’s brand new, self-produced album, which explores self trust and her changing relationship with music.
Jodie Nicholson has performed in Sofar Leeds, Sofar Newcastle, and Sofar Middlesbrough.
