Ivy Mairi is a singer-songwriter who has been involved in the Toronto music community and releasing records for almost a decade. Ivy grew up in a musical family on Toronto’s Ward’s Island. As a teenager she would leaf through her mother’s books of traditional music and – not knowing many of the songs – make up her own melodies for the lyrics she found. With time, she began to write her own words as well. In 2005, 17 year-old Ivy was introduced to Michael Timmins of Cowboy Junkies, who began to informally record her early songwriting experiments. Ivy went on to record two full-length albums of original folk music with Timmins as producer - Well You and No Talker. The backing band on No Talker featured playing by Ivy’s long-time mentor, cellist and singer Anne Bourne. In 2014, Ivy self-released a moodier, sparser album called Nonbeliever that she created with longtime friend and collaborator Matthew Bailey. Ivy is currently exploring new musical territory that is taking her songs into the realms of pop, R&B, and electronic minimalism with All Around Me, the first single from her forthcoming EP that is a collaboration with producer Kieran Adams (DIANA).
