Gregory Griffin is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for his wry, impressionistic brand of indie folk. Drawing on classic rock, modern indie, Americana, and the folk-song research of pioneering ethnomusicologist Cecil Sharp, Griffin’s music evokes misty hillsides, chance encounters, and the pull of the untrodden trail. A Northern California native and graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Griffin spent five years in England working as a producer and recording engineer. There, on a hitchhiking trip along Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish highlands, he found moors and vistas whose rugged magic brought him back to childhood rambles in the foothills and redwood forests surrounding Mount Tamalpais. Caledonia, Griffin’s debut album, grew from his vision of spiritual communion between those two distant regions. Produced by Griffin himself, and featuring field recordings from his travels, the album is at times contemplative, playful, and fiercely curious, capturing the wonder and weathered beauty of the wild outdoors.
Gregory Griffin has performed in Sofar San Francisco.
