It’s May and there’s no shortage of exciting updates from performers all over the world. Here’s your Sofar Artist News for May 2024. It’s kinda long, and frankly, that’s what we love about it.
- A whole slew of artists who’ve played Sofar shows were included in the NPR Tiny Desk Contest Fan Vote. These included Alejandro Aranda, Bandits on the Run, DAP The Contract, Jett Kwong, Nellie, Ollella, Rijah, and The Philharmonik.
This is a huge achievement for all these artists, so we want to applaud them for getting that far. And now we can share that the winner is…
2. …The Philharmonik!!! The Bay Area singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist took home the grand prize, emerging as the winner from nearly 7,000 entries. The announcement was made on the Tiny Desk show, and The Philharmonik immediately brought his band into frame to celebrate. We’re stoked for him; he’s played over 130 Sofar shows!

3. Speaking of tours, Remi Wolf’s Big Ideas Tour is underway in Europe right now, with show dates through June. The US leg kicks off in September, and we’re stoked to announce Wolf is partnering with Sofar VIP & Seated! Get a VIP ticket and enjoy a stellar merch package, featuring technicolor dad hats, totes, and more.
4. In other tour news, some familiar faces are on the road supporting Tank, Carl Thomas, and Keri Hilson’s R&B Money tour across the US. Mir.ek.el will open for the trio in Dallas, D.Lylez in Chicago, and Jack Freeman in Atlanta.
5. We’re gearing up for summer festivals all over the Northern Hemisphere. Glastonbury is coming up in late June, with familiar artists like Bombay Bicycle Club, Olivia Dean, and FLYTE all taking the stage across the weekend of June 26-30.
Missed out on Glasto tickets? Maybe these artists will be playing Sofars near you…We’ll never tell! Well, actually we will – eventually.
6. Waiting for that third Moses Sumney album to be announced? Maybe this will make the waiting a little sweeter. Moses Sumney will be releasing a limited edition vinyl reissue of his 2014 EP Mid-City Island. Now you can hear “Plastic” for the first time ever.
While you wait to get your hands on it, watch Sumney perform the song way back in 2015, at Sofar NYC.
7. June is a big month. Expect global Pride celebrations, and in the US, Juneteenth and Black Music Month. We have tons of special events planned at Sofars in cities all over the world; don’t miss out!
8. New Yorkers, what are your plans for New York Music Month? This annual celebration runs the month of June, with Sofar shows pretty much happening every week across the city.
Don’t miss our special panel events, hosted at Sofar HQ with Biscuit Head Collective. There are two: “Producers of New York” on June 6 and “Tools for Indie Musicians” on June 27.

9. Although Amy Winehouse never performed at a Sofar show, we got to imagine what it would be like at a recent collaboration show between us and Focus Features to celebrate the release of the new Winehouse biopic Back to Black.
