One of our lifetime’s most legendary singer-songwriters, Winehouse’s story will come to life on May 17, with the biopic Back to Black, starring Marisa Abela as Winehouse and directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy). Following Winehouse’s early rise to fame and the making of her groundbreaking second and final album, Back to Black, the film is told through Amy’s eyes and inspired by her deeply personal lyrics.
To celebrate the film’s release, we partnered with Focus Features for a special show in LA, featuring three artists who bring their very different renditions of one of Winehouse’s most iconic songs, “Valerie”.
From M’Lynn’s jazzy piano, to Valley Boy’s soaring voice and guitar, to Xenia’s slowed down, atmospheric delivery – it’s clear that Winehouse’s influence on popular music is both definitive and infinite.
