Here are five notable artists who\u2019ve performed at Sofar shows in the past, along with links to their awesome performances.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lily Allen<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Across her 20-year career, Lily Allen has amassed a long list of accolades (9 BRIT Award nominations, one win; one Grammy nomination; and one Mercury Prize nomination). It\u2019s no wonder: her voice, genre-blending, and songwriting abilities have made her stand out in the music industry, dating all the way back to 2006\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alright, Still<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the smash hit single \u201cSmile\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This London crowd was lucky enough to witness her artistry first-hand, with a cover of Queen\u2019s \u201cI Want to Break Free\u201d back in October 2018. This was part of our 8-city event to celebrate the release of the Queen\/Freddie Mercury biopic <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bohemian Rhapsody<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Allen appeared just before heading out on a massive global tour to promote her fourth studio album <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No Shame<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Lily Allen - I Want To Break Free (Queen Cover) | Sofar London\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MpMPkfOXP84?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James Bay<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/4EzkuveR9pLvDVFNx6foYD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The British singer-songwriter <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shot to stardom in 2014 with his song \u201cHold Back the River\u201d (later included on his debut album <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chaos and the Calm<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). But did you know he played a Sofar before he received global attention?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cast your mind back to 2013, when on a cold January day in London, a 22-year old Bay performed his song \u201cStealing Cars\u201d. \u201cIt\u2019s not about stealing cars,\u201d he nervously joked. Did the people in the room know he\u2019d be a big star? Just listen to the performance and you\u2019ll know: his talent was apparent even back then.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cut to just last month (and three albums later) when Bay made a surprise appearance at Sofar London at the Francis Crick Institute \u2013\u00a0in the middle of an exhibition about the human brain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"James Bay - Stealing Cars | Sofar London\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tJrj0eWlRC8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zevia<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Named one of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/music\/meet-people-spring-2023-emerging-artists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People Magazine\u2019s Emerging Artists<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> last year, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/6z9k3E8sR90LH0N4zyOxUu?si=7aZutiQJTXK2gwMOIU8_LA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zevia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has only gained more traction in the music industry since. Audiences all over the world connect with her music, which is being recognized for addressing mental health, such as on 2022\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we\u2019re all sad here<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In May, Zevia performed at Sofar Los Angeles at the Village Studios and captivated the crowd with her new single \u201csurrender\u201d. Pitchfork called it \u201chis most interesting and beguiling\u201d album yet, and Variety said \u201cthe album unfurls into an anthology of dark, interconnected tales of loss, unrequited love and casual brushes with the divine\u201d. With monthly Spotify listeners swelling to over 640,000, it seems his audience agrees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shauf swung by Sofar Los Angeles in 2015 to debut a track off what would become his fourth album, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Party<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The song is called \u201cThe Worst of You\u201d and it\u2019s about a guy trying to find his girlfriend at a party and jumping to all the wrong conclusions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Andy Shauf - Worst In You | Sofar Los Angeles\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yGz8QbY-sFU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oh He Dead<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indie funk outfit <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/2nLlWcvMIIGHHnDOQMi0h6?si=GJUvbie-Ry6h_EYJjFYWxw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oh He Dead<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> came up in the Washington D.C. music scene and hit their stride with last year\u2019s album <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pretty<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Now they\u2019ve acquired over 300k Spotify streams and are out touring <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pretty <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and their upcoming follow-up <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ugly<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oh He Dead\u2019s sound has been described as \u201ca combination of Stevie Nicks and Tracy Chapman\u201d by radio host Kojo Nnamdi and \u201cinfectious and soulful\u201d by the Washington Post.
