Get ready to dive into a lineup making waves across every genre. Let’s get into it!</p> <p>1. Maddie Jay has been teasing us with singles from her upcoming album for months now. Dropping this January, it’s shaping up to be something special. This LA-based producer, artist, and multi-instrumentalist has crafted a unique sound that’s all her own—think layers of synths, beats, and her distinguishable bass, woven together with a knack for intimate storytelling. From her early days in Smithers, BC, to working alongside names like Remi Wolf, Lorde, and Summer Walker, Maddie’s always brought a mix of authenticity and killer musicality to everything she touches. <a href="https://open.spotify.com/prerelease/6SFASCHVQTXTqoESC0JNmv?si=0020034956644e86" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Get ahead of the release by pre-saving the album on Spotify</a>, and in the meantime, check out her latest single, “Chemical,” below.</p> <p><iframe loading="lazy" title="Chemical - Maddie Jay (live)" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/BxGicOdXSXg?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe></p> <p>2. Cosmic Collective is on a roll with <em><a href="https://open.spotify.com/album/2dk4jep9MfQytEnNhepL2k?si=PAJsmIJlQeyERppVulP0dg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EEEEE</a></em>, their fifth album of the year (!), mixing their fusion of jazz and funk. Known for pushing the boundaries of sound, this crew keeps listeners guessing with each track, layering tight rhythms and unexpected twists. Staying local to their North Carolina roots, <a href="https://www.cosmiccollectivemusic.com/shows.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">their upcoming show</a> is sure to bring a whole lotta groovin’.</p> <p>3. California crowd-pleaser Basi Vibe are back with their latest single, <a href="https://open.spotify.com/album/2WktMQTxj5sq9ysE3HRo7J?si=zo8d1WDJQ12I6_vluI5_Jg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Mercy me!”</a>—the second release this year and another gem in their jazz-infused neo-soul style. Known for captivating California audiences with live shows, Basi Vibe bring a refreshing, smooth energy that keep us wanting more.</p> <p><iframe loading="lazy" title="BASI VIBE - Jaded [Official Live Performance]" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/w988qMZmCGY?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe></p> <p>4. After the success of her album <a href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/67FB4n52MgexGQIG8s0yUH?si=BJ7YIB71TlK2IbjajaLC9A" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>This Wasn’t Meant for You Anyway</em></a>, which dropped earlier this year, Lola’s December UK tour is nearly sold out. With Australia and the EU lined up next, <a href="https://lolayoung.tix.to/twmfyatour?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAabweVNkTXqpNS7IQyHEHXpPt6yCVgQGIhuHgwNcmT-5JB0VJY3Kx2b-dWM_aem_3dw4sToAHJZiaWLOejBHDg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">snag a ticket if you can</a>—and stream “Charlie” to hear why this tour is a must-see.</p> <p><iframe loading="lazy" title="Charlie" width="500" height="375" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fhvSBa-P71c?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe></p> <p>5. Ax and the Hatchetmen just dropped a fresh version of their single <a href="https://open.spotify.com/album/2vWknv3K5YT2lbxBCFpwnK?si=COmvkaanQmKYWoX32dPpcQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Love Songs,”</a> guest featuring L.A. Exes for a new spark to their alternative, college rock vibe. They’ve been on fire this year with other releases too, including the fan-favorite <a href="https://open.spotify.com/track/4mPpbCmFofhPKI87Dq9RHV?si=6b95655bb20d4e7f" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Flagstaff.”</a> They just hit the road for their <a href="https://www.axandthehatchetmen.com/tour" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Way Too Late Tour</a>—grab a ticket and experience these new tracks firsthand!</p> <p><iframe loading="lazy" title="Ax and the Hatchetmen - Love Songs (Lyric Video) ft. You can thank the Sofar team (literally) for getting this drop from Australia to your playlist.</p> <p>7. Phil. stepped away from his Hell’s Kitchen role on Broadway to bring a slice of his soulful sound to a Sofar show in Harlem last month—and it was a hit. Now he’s back with a new single,<br /> <a href="https://open.spotify.com/track/1o9mIwY4oVBalrNjDOMYsY?si=d38036a8139f4cda" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Whiskey Neat,”</a> and trust us—you’ll want to sip on this one.</p> <p><iframe loading="lazy" title="whiskey neat - Phil. She had the crowd, well… </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">rapt</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> during her performance. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In this video, you’ll also see Moses Sumney on stage but he didn’t join Karen O for this particular performance. We’ve entered the Vault a couple times over the years— </span><a href="https://www.sofarsounds.com/blog/articles/from-the-vault-revisiting-vintage-sofars" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">once in 2022</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> and again </span><a href="https://www.sofarsounds.com/blog/articles/sofar-video-vault-april-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">earlier last April</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This time around, we’re turning our attention to some big names you’ve probably come across. Did you know these performers once graced the Sofar stage?</span></p> <h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Post Animal – When I Get Home | Sofar Chicago</span></h2> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Famous for being the band that </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Stranger Things</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">’ Joe Keery once played guitar for, psych-rock band <a href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/4iaDWP59Z3e62DW7YWDbIE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Post Animal</a> played Sofar Chicago in 2016. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Keery left the band in 2019 due to acting commitments, but he’s since released solo material under the name Djo. The band released </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Forward Motion Godyssey</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> in 2020 and </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Love Gibberish</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> in 2022. </span></p> <p><iframe loading="lazy" title="Post Animal - When I Get Home | Sofar Chicago" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rj2zDvBPXyI?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe></p> <h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Robert Pattinson – It’s All On You | Sofar London</span></h2> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Cast your mind back to January 2010. Everyone was playing Farmville and Angry Birds and singing Justin Bieber’s “Baby”. The trailer for </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Twilight: Eclipse </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">had just dropped. Oh, and that year Robert Pattinson would be named one of </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Time</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">’s most influential people in the world – but not before playing Sofar London. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The actor isn’t necessarily known for his musical chops (although he did have two original songs in </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Twilight</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">), but he wowed the audience at this show with this song, tinged in a country drawl, called “It’s All On You”. </span></p> <p><iframe loading="lazy" title="Robert Pattinson - It's All On You | Sofar London" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pJJ3pBSLgVk?start=7&feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe></p> <h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Manny Walters – My Own Fault | Sofar Cape Town</span></h2> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Our fourth most watched video of all time, <a href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/0g13F5xSoh22Ih66mbYJDj?si=HiE-K0k6TfardPbQmd1YvQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Manny Walters</a>’ 2017 performance of his then-unreleased song “My Own Fault” is one etched in Sofar history. Walters is a South African singer-songwriter with soul and R&B influences, who had the inaugural Sofar Cape Town crowd mesmerized with his rich voice and guitar tone. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I wasn’t in such a hurry to release [it] anywhere else,” Walters said in </span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moVdH1XLX64&t=9s" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">an interview he did with us last year</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, “because to me this particular performance was in a specific capsule. Having it on YouTube was cool because it was the one that people would have to go back to because it didn’t exist in any other capacity anywhere else.”</span></p> <p><iframe loading="lazy" title="Manny Walters - My Own Fault | Sofar Cape Town" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TmLbBOpaiZs?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe></p> <h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Tank and the Bangas – You So Dumb | Sofar Chicago</span></h2> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dynamic virtuosos, <a href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/5cAtakaadWHJLxmGKrKcX7?si=txeSEwJyRjue_A5HiXcNAw" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tank and the Bangas</a> shot to stardom via </span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKzobTCIRDw" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> just before this 2017 Sofar Chicago show. Laferte’s music is known all over Central and South America, with nearly 11 million monthly listeners.
