There’s really nothing like summer in Vancouver, B.C., full of long sunny days with a kind of serene feel. It’s the place to be, with plenty to do, including loads of good venues in Vancouver for live music. Where should you go to catch some of these wonderful performances, you might be asking? Well, we’ve got some thoughts on a few secret spots you can find surprise shows through Sofar.
Here are five of our favorite unexpected venues in Vancouver for live music.
1. Harbour Podcast Studios
If you catch a show at Harbour Podcast Studios, you know you’re in for a sonic treat. The private recording studio specializes in all kinds of audio endeavors—podcasts, voiceovers, and musical recordings, which means solid sound equipment for a pristine sounding show.
2. La Fabrique
Know what pairs nicely with intimate live music? A nice glass of wine. La Fabrique St. George Winery can be found in the heart of Mount Pleasant, and specializes in making their wines in the ancient style of qvevri, fermenting in the ground with naturally occurring yeasts. You’ve gotta try this lovely beverage, and catch some live music while you do it.
3. Pavilion Cowork
While you’re in Mount Pleasant, be sure to check out Pavilion, a premiere coworking space nestled against the waterfront and overlooking the city skyline. Maybe you might find yourself dreaming up your next big career venture while you’re there, or just slowing down and enjoying the view—and a little live music on special nights.
4. Conscious Lab
Conscious Lab is where expansive events and community collide for fun-filled, big nights. Located in downtown, this gorgeous, brick-walled space is always buzzing with energy of events past and present, filled with a kind of magic that makes those nights of live music extra special.
5. ANOMALY
Last up on our list of non-traditional venues in Vancouver for live music is ANOMALY, a creative studio dedicated to making safe space for artists to create. Sometimes it’s pop-up intimate events, or collaborative work sessions, or live music—you never know what you might find at ANOMALY (bonus, they even have their own handmade clothing line from secondhand and deadstock materials). Definitely a place to keep on your list.
