She’s a legit star in her own right, with nearly 6 million followers on TikTok, but that didn’t stop Shuba from fangirling during her recent Sofar Artist-in-Residence stay. The LA-based ‘1st Gen’ singer was inspired to visit London to follow in the footsteps of some of her musical icons in England’s capital.
As well as performing at Sofar shows and creating new music during her stay, Shuba hit up famous old haunts of her idol, Freddie Mercury. From the steps of Wembley Stadium, where the Queen frontman famously stole the show at Live Aid, to his Kensington home, Garden Lodge, Shuba soaked up Mercury’s history.
As luck would have it, during Shuba’s month in London, and nearly thirty-two years after his death, the entire contents of his home and a host of Queen memorabilia were put on display for the very first time ahead of their auction. Freddie Mercury: A World of His Own was an “exhibition that saw Sotheby’s New Bond Street transform itself into a Mercury museum. We discovered Freddie Mercury’s kaleidoscopic world of music, style, and glamor. Spanning art, fashion, musical instruments, personal papers and possessions, candid photographs, furniture, and jewels accrued over the course of fifty years, the sales were sourced from his multiple collections, meticulously preserved over the decades at his beloved London residence.”
Watch as Shuba explores the vast collection, which sold for over $50m, and tells us how Freddie, plus Adele and Sam Smith, inspire her to push herself further.
