Last night was music’s biggest night. The Grammys are a huge deal, so you can understand our excitement when we saw some familiar names take home gramophones of their own.
We posted a few months back about the Sofar artists who were nominated; here are the ones that won big last night:
Billie Eilish & FINNEAS
Billie and her brother FINNEAS performed a Sofar show back in 2016, and since then, their careers have quite rightly skyrocketed. At this year’s Grammys the duo picked up two more awards to add to their collection, with “What Was I Made For?” (their song for the Barbie movie) winning both “Song of the Year” and “Best Song Written for Visual Media”.
This of course isn’t the first Grammy win for Eilish and FINNEAS. In 2020, the pair almost swept the major categories with five wins, including Best New Artist for Eilish.
Lucy Dacus & Julien Baker (boygenius)
It should come as no surprise that boygenius would walk away with at least one win last night. The “supergroup” released one of the hottest albums of last year, the record, which took home the prize for “Best Alternative Album”. Their song “Not Strong Enough” won the Grammy for both “Best Rock Song” and “Best Rock Performance”.
Two members of boygenius have played Sofar shows: Lucy Dacus, who performed at a Sofar in Washington, D.C. in 2016; and Julien Baker, who performed at one of our Amnesty International x Sofar shows in Chicago in 2017.
Nicole Zuraitis
The jazz vocalist and pianist took home her first Grammy last night, winning the “Best Jazz Vocal Album” award for her album How Love Begins.
Zuraitis performed a Sofar show back in New York City in 2016:
The String Revolution
The international guitar ensemble won their first Grammy, for “Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella” for their song “Folsom Prison Blues”.
The group performed a Sofar show in Los Angeles in 2016.
