Well, March has marched onward but there’s still plenty to catch up on in this Artist News.
Read on for album news, stunning performances, and legendary Oscar moments that are not Gosling-related. Here’s our March Sofar Artist News:
- Ayoni’s performance of “Bitter in Love” on the COLORS Show is an instant classic. She’s giving Adele, she’s giving Beyoncé, but most importantly she’s giving Ayoni. The song is about saying goodbye to an ex, but we’re saying hello to Ayoni, who will be releasing her debut album ISOLA later this year.
“If it’s really over, don’t you leave a light for me,” she sings. Ooof, you have our heart, Ayoni.
- Hozier’s new album, Unreal Unearth, dropped on Friday, and we’re really digging it. It’s moody and expansive, like the skies over Ireland. Just check out the music video to “De Selby (Part 2)”, featuring actor Domnhall Gleeson as a man repeatedly digging his own grave:
- In recent Medium Build news, Nick Carpenter announced the release date of his long-awaited new album. It’s called Country and it’s slated for release on April 5. The pride of Anchorage released a teaser trailer, and dropped an icy live performance of “Knowing U Exist” just a few weeks ago.
- Billie Eilish and FINNEAS won their second Oscars, and performed “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie during the live broadcast. The performance had the whole crowd of A-Listers spellbound, just like we were when Eilish and FINNEAS performed at Sofar Los Angeles all those years ago.
Oh, and with that Oscar win, Billie Eilish became the youngest person ever to win TWO Oscars.
- The incredible multi-instrumentalist Tonina was announced as a performer at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation in St. Louis in May. Seeing as St. Louis is her hometown, this’ll be a special show that you don’t want to miss. And if the vibe is anything like this performance from a recent Sofar London, it’ll be entrancing from the first note:
- Tour announcements are coming in and the UK’s Flyte are heading to North America in June to tour in support of Wilderado. The tour will take the duo from St. Louis to North Carolina and everywhere in between.
Can’t wait for the tour? Tide yourself over with their performance of “Light Me Up” at Sofar Manchester back in 2015:
- Also touring the US is Sofar staff fave, Juice. Catch the group at venues around the Northeast in April, and be enchanted by their unique blend of R&B, soul, jazz, and spoken word.
And in the meantime, watch their performance of “Stupidfreak” at Sofar NYC in 2019. (Psst, we’ve watched this over 100 times).
