Sofar artists are an ambitious, talented bunch, and we’re continually in awe of how these artists continue to grow and expand into new creative territory. NPR debuts, headlining tours, new podcasts—here’s what these global artists have been up to in July.
Artist News July:
1. It’s extra special when two Sofar artists come together to collaborate, like Olivia Dean and Sofar alum Leon Bridges for this stunning (we repeat, stunning) live performance of “The Hardest Part”. When those voices come together for the chorus? We can’t really do it proper justice, you gotta just hear for yourself.
2. After talking with Jensen McRae back in March, it was clear the artist is on a path bound for big creative things. So, we’re extra excited to see Jensen’s started a brand new podcast, “What Were You Thinking,” a space for interviews, essays, and whatever creativity comes pouring out of the artist—we’re here for it. As we wait for more episodes to roll out, we’re spending a little more time revisiting her Sofar Story from her recent residency in London.
3. Fact: Victoria Canal is fully on fire this year. After winning the Rising Star Award at the Ivor Novello Awards and touring with fellow Sofar alum Hozier, the artist just announced she’s got a string of headlining EU and UK dates, along with another set of US shows opening for Allen Stone and fellow Sofar artist Sammy Rae & The Friends. While you wait for her to come to a town near you, revisit this gorgeous Sofar performance.
4. Need some dreamy music in your life? Brandee Younger is giving us the ultra soothing harp tunes in her recent NPR Tiny Desk concert, lulling us into an peaceful space. Sit back, relax, and get into the calm vibes.
5. Happy release month to Mahalia, who just dropped her newest, IRL, a blend of woozy and wonderful pop neo-soul shaped into 13 pristine tracks. We love everything the artist does, including her Sofar performance from back in 2016, blending spoken word and jaw-dropping vocals into one seamless song.
