April’s already gone? Well, not quite, not without taking a look at a few of the exciting things happening for some of our Sofar alumni this month.
1. We’re getting a little ahead of the news on this one—The Head and The Heart’s new album Every Shade of Blue comes out on April 29th (with a few singles available to hear now). While we’re anxious to hear the new album, we’re also still hanging onto these flawless harmonies from the group’s intimate Sofar in London. (Fun fact: the band met and formed through an Open mic in Seattle—never underestimate who you’ll meet by trying out something new.)
2. Lake Street Dive is about to headline SeriesFest at the iconic Red Rocks amphitheater in Colorado. When he’s not playing with the band, Akie Bermiss is sharing his own solo project. We got a chance to see him in action at Sofar NYC, playing a sweet little groover that may, or may not, be about aliens.
3. Armani Swayze, aka Lola Ladae´, has a new single out, “You Deserve It”, a sizzling R&B track with a chorus that’ll live in your head for the rest of the day. It’s one of our favorites from the artist, alongside this Sofar Atlanta group singalong of “B-O-O-T-Y”.
4. Getting your summer shows lined up? Any festivals on your calendar? A whole bunch of US festivals just announced their artists, and Rayland Baxter is playing quite a few, like Green River, Peach Tree, Fort Desolation….the list goes on (and can be found here). If you’re not on the festival circuit this year, you can check out the artist’s Sofar Los Angeles performance, a stripped down set dipped in reverb, perfectly preserved from 2015.
5. Oh, speaking of festivals—anyone at Coachella this year? Did you get a chance to see alum Chelsea Cutler play her set? Well, she’ll be back, and she has a few other tour dates ahead, AND, she’s of course got this awesome Sofar.
6. Last but not least, we’re actually a little late on this, but Cinema of Excess recently released their warm and delicate new EP Rooftops. If you haven’t yet gotten to it, now is the time. But wait—before you head off to listen, there’s their downright serene Sofar to see.
