Before March goes, we gotta take a minute to look at the cool things our Sofar alumni have been cooking up. Debut albums, tour support, superhero stardom—here’s our most recent Sofar alumni news.
1. Put it in your weekend plans to check out Miki Ratsula’s debut album, i owe it to myself, which comes out tomorrow. The Sofar alum put out the first single, “sugarcane”, earlier this month, a pop sweet tune about easy, breezy love. The song itself coincided with the first anniversary of the artist’s top surgery, an event at the crux of their tender new album. While you wait for the official release, there’s Miki’s stripped down Sofar performance, delicate and grounded.
2. Seen The Batman yet? You might’ve spotted Sofar alum Robert Pattinson—he’s in a few scenes. Before he was wearing the batsuit, he gave us a brief surprise performance in London, after artist Marcus Foster asked if his friend Rob could play a song. Check out his acoustic Sofar below (also for the record, #teamedward).
3. Another new album for your weekend– country artist Maren Morris is putting out her third major label LP, Humble Quest, tomorrow. The Sofar artist will be touring throughout the year, mostly playing festivals and amphitheaters. We’re feeling extra fortunate we got to see her a couple years back at a Sofar in Nashville, TN. (Sorry, no video for this one, but we do have this shot from photographer Lauren Murphy.)

4. Make it out to South by Southwest this year? There was much to see and celebrate during the Austin festivities, including Sofar artist Desireé Dawson’s “Meet You At The Light” being selected for Best Music Video. Once you’ve watched for yourself, go rewatch her sweet Sofar.
5. It warms our heart when we see our Sofar alum taking on big stages. So, we’re extra thrilled to see both Juá and Faith & Majesty opening up for Charlotte Day Wilson. Juá takes the stage tonight in Seattle, Washington, and Faith & Majesty performed last night in Portland, Oregon. For the many outside the Pacific Northwest, you can check out the latter duo’s catchy Sofar on a more intimate stage.
6. And speaking of the PNW, our Vancouver, BC Sofar alumni Blue J put out their new album, A Sign of Good Luck, earlier this month. Melancholy yet light, these songs feel like laying out on a lawn at night, staring up at the stars. You get some of that mood from this stripped down duo performance, too.
7. Last but far from least, we want to give a proper shoutout to Michigander, who just wrapped a string of tour dates with Manchester Orchestra. Those of you in the Midwest might get another chance to see him at Wonderstruck in July. For those who can’t make it, you can acquaint yourself with his Sofar from Chicago. By around :31 when he sings the line “I don’t wanna leave/this tiny town I hate so much,” you know you’re watching something special (spoiler: the band really cracks open the magic around 1:02).
