Our newest iteration of the Chill Vibes Playlist is being brought to you by our guest curator, artist Jae Jin. On one level, Jae Jin is known for making pop soul music. But on a deeper level, the Baltimore-based artist is making music made to build community, songs that meet the listener wherever they’re at that in the moment—sad, happy, or somewhere in between, Jae’s there to serenade you through it.
The artist took that same approach to picking songs for Chill Vibes, saying, “I went with more of a gut approach and chose songs that moved me. I chose mostly artists who I feel can perform live amazingly even if there wasn’t some large production behind them. I think more spotlight should be on real music and real people who have something to say. Hopefully there’s a resurgence of conscious, truth-laden soul music.”
Hear the Chill Vibes Playlist, and take a look at a few standout tracks chosen by Jae Jin.
THE 1975 | “ALL I NEED TO HEAR”
This unassuming song by The 1975 is probably my favorite song I heard this year. Sometimes the chillest vibe is the simplest production with awesome, simplistic songwriting.
JAE JIN | “PAGES”
This was a quietly dropped single that will be a part of my fourth full-length album of original music. It’s the epitome of the song that was born out of the question of “what if I was to create the chillest, viby-est song ever that simplistically poses lyrics that make listeners think… but not too hard?”
KEVIN GARRETT | “COLORING”
I remember seeing Kevin perform this particular song in NYC and I was so moved by the simplicity.
MADISON RYANN WARD | “PARTIAL”
I still think this girl is one of the most underrated vocalists in music. Unbelievable.
