Welcome back to our latest New Music Alert. This month’s batch has a whole lotta feel to it— moody, woozy songs that pull you into the sound. Get ready to immerse yourself in solid new music from around the globe.
KINGSLEY IBENECHE | “WHAT YOU WANT”
There’s a whole lot of subtlety to this track. You don’t immediately grip the beat, it’s more like you step into the song and submerge yourself in its smooth sounds. It’s almost tactile, maybe that has to do with Kingsley Ibeneche’s background as a dancer. Take a listen to feel for yourself.
DANIELLE PONDER | “THOUGHTS”
This song almost sounds like it lifts out of synth smokey haze, rising as an even-keeled sultry tune with occasional retro funk vibes peeking through. The Rochester artist made something special here.
MEG MAC | “ONLY LOVE”
This one’s a pivot from the last two, highly defined by a clear beat that Meg Mac slides the verses over. Even the artist’s name, Meg Mac, feels like a rhythm. The hooks are strong in this one.
RAQUEL KURPERSHOEK | “DÁTILES Y JAZMINES”
The Seville, Spain based artist gives us a track that feels as serene as the city itself, with sparse percussion, a winding river of soft classical guitar, and Raquel Kurpershoek’s voice floating over the sonic landscape. A delightful listen.
JASON BAJADA | “RUN ON ROMANCE”
This ‘80s pop tinged, woozy number from Jason Bajada feels like sitting out in the sun all afternoon, feeling somewhere between drained and relaxed, almost otherworldly. Maybe some of those mixed emotions come from the lyrics themselves, reflecting on the end of a love affair.
GREGNWMN | “STAY DOWN”
GREGNWYMN’s here to pep you right back up with this full force of a song, where the LA-based rapper bounces through his verses. The song’s barely over a minute, but the artist packs it well.
SCALLER | “CHAOS & ORDER”
The Jakarta, Indonesia based group brings us this delicate alt-rockesque tune, with a myriad of synths blooming under a simple guitar line until about the two-minute mark when the song begins to glide. It’s a dreamy one.
AYMZ | “ICH TANZE ALLEINE”
Let’s wrap on the most upbeat of the group, a hearty electro-pop number from Vienna, Austria based artist, AYMZ. Pulsing bass, hooky verses, sung or whispered, with big bold choruses. It’s only two and a half minutes, but it’s fun from start to finish.
