May, you say? Well, we say it’s time for another New Music Alert. Windswept jazz, groovy neo-soul and more from artists all over the world. Hear the full playlist below, followed by a little more detail on each gorgeous track.
Tecoby Hines | “Days under Sun”
You know when you walk into a bustling chic bar around 5 PM, and everyone’s leaning into the good vibe, and there’s that palpable energy of kicking off a laid-back evening ahead? That’s what Tecoby Hines’ soulful and simple “Days under Sun” sounds like, like the perfect beat on the perfect day.
Majamisty Trio | “WIND ROSE”
The special thing about this Majamisty Trio track (or ONE of the special things), is its ability to grip you, and let you feel free. The Belgrade-based group’s “WIND ROSE” is a jazzy number with both urgency and a leisurely feel. It’s delicate yet detailed, with periodic swells of instruments that feel as subtle as a breeze that comes and goes.
Tigermilch | “Die Rolle des Zuhörenden”
The Cologne group brings you this saucy, neo-soul groover. It’s both retro and timeless, but above all, smooth—wait, at that 2 minute mark, we pivot into an upbeat outro, a lift of energy that just makes the song even stronger.
Marzz | “So Frequently”
Fresh from Marzz’s new debut LP comes this dreamy jam, the kind of perfected hip-hop-and-pop heartbreaker that feels reminiscent of those iconic ‘90s ballads. Take a listen.
Mesadorm | “Soap Opera”
And speaking of a kind of nostalgia, this Mesadorm track sparks the ecstatic feeling of early 2000s indie folk heyday in the absolute best way. The London four-piece gives us a bouncy, bright tune that feels like pure fun.
Sheila Patricia | “Eido”
In under two minutes, Sheila Patricia takes us on an adventure led by rapid, defined percussion, and two voices tightly braided together. It’s quick and strong, so get to it.
HÅN | “Bicycle”
This one has the most mystical intro, and then drops into pop verses that feel both grounded and airy, almost like riding a bike (or bicycle), coincidentally (or not). Don’t believe me? Well, you gotta listen to hear for yourself.
Esabalu | “Be Okay”
We’re ending with an extra special ballad from the one and only Jenn Mundia (our Communications and Engagement Manager here at Sofar), also known as Esabalu. She’s given us a track that’s emotive, cathartic, and somehow in the midst of it all, catchy. Jenn’s lush voice, the rich piano chords, the expansive strings—we could go on gushing, but you really need to hear this one.
