Hold it right there. The year is already going fast, but before you take off into the March month ahead, we’ve got an eclectic group of tunes from our Sofar artists for your ears. Hear the playlists below, and then read on for a few details on each standout track.
LANNDS | “o.o.w”
The Jacksonville, Florida duo is kicking us off with a real stunner. This one is downright prismatic– a technicolor array of synths and beats bouncing us right through this catchy, catchy pop song.
AJ McQueen
Over a lush loop of strings that feel infinite and reminiscent of ‘70s soul, the Houston artist moves through thoughtful verses that are both direct and poetic. Take time with this song.
Yutaka Hirasaka | “Time Will Tell”
We said Yutaka Hirasaka would be an artist to watch in 2022, and here he goes, making airy instrumental groovers like “Time Will Tell” off his recent release In The Moment. Start with this one, then let the artist’s easy sonic breeze take you through the whole LP.
Lisa Oduor-Noah | “Jahera”
You’re gliding along with this track from the start. And then around the :26 mark where there’s a switch to a light beat and the lush forest of voices singing out the chorus, we get the Nairobi-based artist’s ability to wield subtlety and depth in her sound.
Abc Dialect | “Feels Right”
We’ve got ourselves a proper slow jam. This track comes from the Buenos Aires-based group’s new self-titled album– it’s sparse and harkens back to the ‘90s slow-jam heyday, not quite retro, but reminiscent.
Gracie Gray | “dig”
This one kind comes from the Los Angeles artist’s new LP, anna. The whole album is tender, but this track in particular kind of feels like spring– delicate, but unfolding and growing by the second.
Ferraz | “¡Corre! – Sunsplash Remix”
Can a song be crystalline? This one feels like it, with those sweet accents and textures that slightly harken back to ‘80s alt pop in the most refined way. Crystalline or not, the Mexico City artist made a track that sparkles.
Chiki Lora | “Decidí – Directo Acústico”
The Madrid artist has gifted us this acoustic track that feels both earthy and vibrant. Voices, horns, flourishing percussion– the first listen makes you feel like you’re in the room for a live performance, and the second is where you start picking up on the endless layers of aural textures. Take a few listens to this one.
