For this month’s New Music Alert: June, we’ve got a whole lot of synthy and soft songs, some heartbreakers and some daydreamers. They’re easy going on the sonic outside, with a little bit of questioning on the lyrical inside. Hear the full list below, followed by a little more about a handful of standout songs.
Latir | “Slow Dance (always & forever)”
We’re big, big fans of Latir around here. The London-based artist (and Sofar Show Experience Manager) gives us this sweet, woozy ballad filled with slow motion love, sizzling drums, and Latir’s stunning vocals.
Mandolin | “Blue”
We’ve been loving the string of singles coming from Mandolin this year. This one feels like a perfect companion to Latir’s “Slow Dance”, a slow R&B tinged jam with a little bit of heartbreak mixed in. And then around the two-minute mark, this song really blossoms into something special.
Benjamin Carter | “*DAYDREAMING”
Right off the bat there’s a momentum here. Benjamin Carter gives us this soft alt-rock number driven by that thumping guitar, steady drum beat, and those wild and wispy synths that hit like rays of sun in the choruses. It’s the kind of tune that lifts you right off your feet.
NIGHT FLIGHT | “Imogen”
NIGHT FLIGHT’s gonna keep you in motion with this breezy tune, encapsulating some of that rock feel. It’s the kind of song you want to feel live at sunset, as the drums are splashing and the guitar is rippling through the reverb. It’ll bring you in.
NEONE the Wonderer | “RagJazz”
The self-proclaimed music experimentalist continues to dazzle us with the way he so seamlessly brings together these silky tones to create a rich tapestry of a song. You can miss it, it’s easy to get caught up in the effortless feel of it, in NEONE’s smooth and quick vocals, but there’s technicolor work happening here.
Beane | “Rhythm of Us”
Velvet, pastels—this easy going love song coated in breathy voices and strings evokes all kinds of soft textures, the dreaminess of love that feels right.
ShySpeaks | “Dawg! Affirm.”
This may be under two minutes, but ShySpeaks doesn’t miss a beat, or a line, or a verse, moving with a poetic precision. You gotta hear it.
Fortuno | “Shatterproof”
We’ll leave you with this warm and wistful tune from Fortuno, a song that feels like those late afternoon walks where you find yourself caught in that late sun, daydreaming, or maybe questioning.
