How, how are we almost halfway through this year? But that’s not what we’re here to discuss, we’re here for our New Music Alert, which is packed with tremendously good music. Hear the full playlist below, then scroll on down for a little more detail on a few highlighted artists.
Charley Crockett | “Make Way for a Better Man”
We’re kicking things off with some good, old-fashioned country music. The Austin artist captures a kind of late ‘50s country spirit on this track that’s a delightful blast from the past.
Nastasia Zürcher | “TO CONFESS”
Spanish artist Nastasia Zürcher gives us an R&B-hued track that’s got a dreamy lilt to it. And during that spacious breakdown around the 1:50 mark, can you hear those subtle, shimmery tones in the background? They genuinely sound like glitter.
TATYANA | “On My Mind”
This might sound odd, but between the sensual instrumental feel and the vocal effect, this song sonically feels like ripples of water. Can you hear that?
Cisco Swank | “Joint 3”
This song doesn’t so much start as rise from a loosely woven cacophony of soft beats. It’s jazz forward with elements of hip hop, but more importantly, it’s visceral—the instruments feel like they’re swirling around you. Get lost in this one.
Rell Be Free | “000special”
This song’s downright fun. The Seattle rapper’s verses are both a loose style and precise delivery, with these buoyant vocal beats that sound like unexpected hooks. It just feels like the rapper and his guests are having a good time with this one—care to join in?
V.C.R. | “TRiP”
The communal feel of this song that comes through the group singalongs and layers of voices is something splendid. We don’t want to say too much, you gotta just feel it for yourself.
FLORES | “Brown”
First off, we gotta say that FLORES’ entire new debut, The Lives They Left needs your ears. But, start here with “Brown”, an even-keeled jam that just feels like it has weight to it, like it grounds you in the groove of it. The Norway-via-El Paso-TX artist just really nailed this one.
Joe Traxler | “Forget How To Speak”
The Vienna-based artist gives us an easy groover, one that’s part indie pop, part confession, with just a hint of ‘90s nostalgia. Give the tune a spin and see how it all comes together.
