It’s officially the second half of 2022, but there are still plenty of good songs ahead this year. In fact, we’ve got a whole flood of them below. Pop, bedroom rock, R&B, take a listen to our July playlist below, followed by a little more about a few standout tracks.
Coral Bismuth | “מגיע לי יותר”
Big yet simple, bright, uplifting—it’s all the feelings you’d expect from a track from Coral Bismuth, a.k.a. the sunflower girl. That sunny guitar lick will have you hooked, asap. The artist just has a way of shining her sonic light and bringing people in, just ask Adam Levine, who heard Coral through his hotel window and ended up asking her to come on stage to perform with Maroon 5.
Enchantée Julia | “QUESTIONS”
This one’s a sleek and comfy pop song, the type of tune that makes you feel both elevated and in the groove. How does the Parisian artist pull it off? Well, that’s the question, or the “QUESTIONS”, if you will.
Magi Merlin | “Free Grillz”
There’s something about this song that feels like highlighting outside the lines. That deep bass groove, the layers of bright vocals, the sizzling beats and climbing synth— it’s like the song’s been flipped inside out and illuminated neon. Long story short, it’s really good.
VanIves | “Old Names”
We’ve got ourselves a grounded, well-worn pop tune. Maybe that’s got something to do with the Glasgow, Scotland duo meeting as 10-year olds, and building their songs around sampled VHS family tapes and the memories ignited by them. Perhaps you don’t hear all that on the first listen, but there’s a feeling that comes through.
Joyeur | “Ultraviolet Techno”
The song name really nails it for this one. It’s shimmery, it’s soothing, kaleidoscopic—the LA artist gives us a track that’s multifaceted, but never overwhelms.
Darius James | “EMPTY”
This song seems to glide from the first beat. The Pendleton, SC artist gives us a smooth delivery of verse after verse over airy R&B textures and a dash of percussion. It’s a summer jam.
Miraa May | “Scandalous”
The Algerian born, London, England-based artist is known for her frankness, and that comes through in this quick two-and-a-half minute track. Even something about the sharp angles of the beats feels upfront and honest.
LÜCY |”電線桿上的鳥”
A pleasant bedroom-rock (or the toilet, according to LÜCY’s bio) tune from the Taipei-based artist. It’s easy listening, and we think you’ll like it.
