Sofar artists never cease to amaze (or record, or write, or perform, or travel, or attempt to change the way we think about the world). Read up on this month’s exciting tour announcements, masterful collaborations, and noteworthy Glastonbury sets – plus a few special peeks behind the Sofar curtain.
Here’s what you might have missed. It’s your June Sofar Artist News.
1.Big name artists are currently on the road in North America, Europe, and beyond, including Lizzy McAlpline, Medium Build, and Lake Street Dive. All these artists have snazzy Sofar VIP packages available, where you can access exclusive merch and get a private pre-show performance or documentary screening.
We covered Lizzy McAlpine and Medium Build in our recent “Sofar’s Best Albums of 2024 (So Far)” article. Lake Street Dive also has a new single out, “Twenty-Five”. Check it out to get excited for their upcoming shows.
2. The Greeting Committee’s new album Everyone’s Gone And I Know I’m The Cause dropped on June 21, and we’re loving it. Keep an eye out for the New Music Alert, where we’ll cover the whole record. For now, give their latest single a listen. It’s a high energy pop track called “Cyclical”, all about the way we approach our own mental and physical health.
Don’t miss The Greeting Committee on the road in North America, July and August.
3. Zevia’s new song “surrender” is an achingly beautiful track about feeling like giving up. It’s incredibly moving, and this crowd at Sofar Los Angeles in May got to experience it first-hand. Check out Zevia’s new album, DON’T MIND MY MIND, which is out now.
We covered the new song in our recent Noteworthy Artists post, and it’s absolutely worth mentioning again.
4. Fresh off some BIG shows with legendary artist Teddy Swims, Victor Ray just dropped a new single called “Falling Into Place”. It’s super soulful and features the incredible Debbie on vocals. Victor Ray has already dropped two other singles this year alone – we’re thinking an album is on its way soon.
If you want to catch him live, Ray just announced some European dates in November and December. If that feels like too far away, we get it — he’s also playing the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 12!
5. Downtempo and jazzy, Zoe Sparks’ new single “The Fakeup Song” is one perfectly tailored for lazing on a sunny day, even if the subject matter is a little gray. The lyrics describe a breakup and the unspoken agreements we make with our partners, including, yes, not watching a show without them around. What do you do, then, when you break up?
Pssst, Sparks is playing a Sofar Los Angeles show on July 20. Maybe she’ll play “The Fakeup Song” live?
6. We challenge you to sit still while you listen to Caleb Kunle’s new single “POWER”. Kunle’s latest is a heavy-hitting, gospel-infused track with the refrain “I’ve got the power to fight the power” and elements of Curtis Mayfield.
Runner-up for the Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent Competition, Kunle will play a slot at this year’s festival. Find him at the Lonely Hearts Club stage on June 29. Can’t make Glastonbury? Catch him at a Sofar London show on July 8!
7. Michael Sebastian features on the track “Heda” from the new kiskadee album A Room to Breathe. Don’t know Michael Sebastian? Let us introduce you! He’s a South African, London-based producer who creates live dance music, combining elements of electronica, jazz, and world music. His mission is all about connecting people through music, and empowering them to live in the moment. A kindred spirit!
Sebastian is playing TWO Sofars in July: Sofar Bristol on July 12 and Sofar London on July 18. We’re buzzing for these shows!
8. Aedan Alvarez’s new single “fall song” is a peaceful pop track about change: in the seasons and in a relationship. The instrumentation is simple but Alvarez’s voice, delicate and resonant, carries the song forward – with harmonic help from singer Anya True. Alvarez’s name and talent might sound familiar: he auditioned for NBC’s The Voice this season, and while he didn’t get picked, he still got a sweet moment with Chance the Rapper.
You might just hear “fall song” IRL when Alvarez plays Sofar NYC on July 20!
9. Before it gets more attention in the New Music Alert, we want to cover BRONZE AVERY’s last single off his debut album HEATWAVE. It’s a fantastic track called “CHAOTIC RIDE”, full of vibrant pop energy and nightclub vibes, about wanting to just escape on a wild journey with someone new. We recently shared the singer’s track “DANGEROUS” in our March New Music Alert: check it out if you missed it!
We add new Sofar shows every day, featuring these artists and so many others. Check out upcoming shows in your city; we’ll see you out there!
