Jazz is considered one of the most influential genres of music. You can feel its rhythm and syncopation across R&B, rock n roll, disco, country, pop, and more. And at Sofar, we love jazz so much that we made a little video playlist to celebrate it. Oh, and we also have some special jazz shows coming up to celebrate International Jazz Day. Keep reading to learn more about International Jazz Day and what celebrations might be happening near you.
April 30 is International Jazz Day, the world’s largest celebration of jazz music. Established in 2011 by UNESCO and jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, International Jazz Day 2024 is now celebrated in over 180 countries worldwide. This year’s host city is Tangier, Morocco, where on April 30 the All-Star Global Concert will feature Hancock, musical director John Beasley, and a roster of artists from all around the world, including master Gnawa musician Abdellah El Gourd.
In addition to the All-Star Global Concert, there will also be workshops, conferences, and community outreach initiatives all over the world.
