It may be the shortest month, but it sure doesn’t act that way.
Sofar artists have been busy in February. Read on for the latest about songs in TV spots, big tours, legendary venues, new releases, and much more. Here’s our February Artist News.
1. If you were one of the 120 million people who watched the Super Bowl, you might have caught Sofar performer Andra Day’s rendition of the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing” before kickoff.
Here she is performing “Rise Up” at a Sofar in Los Angeles:
2. For those of you who watched the second episode of Netflix’s The Brothers Sun, you may have heard Sofar performer Sonia Barcelona’s “Heart Station”. The track immediately pulls you in with its psychedelic rhythm and sitar-like strings. The music video just adds to that trippy sensation.
3. NYC’s sibling trio BAILEN embarked on a North America tour this month, promoting the release of last year’s Tired Hearts. They’ve played over 100 Sofar shows, winning the love of audiences across the world with their harmonies, masterful melodies, and charming stage presence.
Want more BAILEN? We don’t judge. They just released the deluxe edition of Tired Hearts with six additional tracks, including one takes and their recent single featuring Amos Lee.
4. South London’s MYTBE released the single “head again” earlier this month. It’s a hypnotic track about anxiety and overthinking, which we’ve been playing over and over. This is her first release since 2022’s Good Enough EP; we’re stoked she’s back.
5. What venue is more iconic than the Ryman Auditorium? The Nashville venue has played host to countless music legends, and in May it will host Sofar performer Abraham Alexander.
The Texan will be playing the Ryman in May, supporting Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors. Tag along if you want to hear him play tracks from his 2023 debut album SEA/SONS.
To tide you over until then, here’s his impeccable Chris Isaak cover that he performed at Electric Deluxe late last year:
6. Bristol’s boci is out on the road again, playing a string of dates around the UK including some festival spots over the next several months.
The violinist released a cover of Björk’s “Unison” back in December. It’s a sparse meditation with plucked strings and pitch perfect harmonies. Check it out:
7. LA-based Runnner is out on the road across North America, from March through May, supporting San Fermin. The indie rock multi-instrumentalist released a full-length earlier this month called starsdust: it’s a shapeshifting collection of electronic, ambient, downtempo, and eclectic tracks, out on Run for Cover Records.
Watch the video for the track “eleven” down below:
8. Hopping the pond in March from Texas to the UK is Sofar performer Angel White, who is performing at Country to Country 2024 in March. C2C is Europe’s biggest country music festival, with shows held in London, Glasgow, and Belfast. White will be playing at the O2 in London, alongside some of the biggest names in country music.
Here’s his latest single “Red Blanket”:
9. In case you missed it… The 66th Grammy Awards took place on February 4, and a handful of Sofar performers took home golden gramophones. Check out our list here.
