A good cover serves as more than a reminder of a well-known tune– it’s a whole new interpretation of the song’s true power, what it can do. Here are a few times Sofar artists have pushed the sonic bounds and brought a new perspective to songs we love. We upload new video performances to our YouTube channel regularly, so you’ll always have new covers to enjoy.
1. AKASE – Under Pressure (The War On Drugs Cover) | Sofar London
The London-based duo took the electronic edge of the original and ran with it, creating tall peaks of icy synths, dotted with small, bursting beats– listening to it almost feels like moving between tall glaciers– but that’s for you to decide.
2. PitchBlak Brass Band – Killing Me Softly (Cover) | Sofar Atlanta
This one’s taken on many forms, and Pitchblak Brass Band does it equal justice as all those before. The crew turns the classic into a full, jammy horn arrangement, and singalong affair. Need we even say more?
3. Lily Allen – I Want To Break Free (Queen Cover) | Sofar London
Sometimes just stripping it down can really let a song breathe. Lily Allen brought the Queen classic to its bones– vocals and piano. They’re solid.
4. Alejandro García – All Apologies (Nirvana Cover) | Sofar Seville
Alejandro García distills the grunge-rock number into a slow and collected, epic build, guiding us through the journey. We stay right on his heels the whole time.
5. Linda Diaz – Latch (Disclosure feat. Sam Smith Cover) | Sofar NYC
Slowed down and simplified– the 2020 Tiny Desk contest winner took this pop song and illuminated its soft ballad heart. Also, she nails those vocals.
