We travel to see the world, but we listen to music to transcend it. Doing both at the same time provides quite the cocktail of “life experience.” The Sofar community reaches across the globe—coming together for incredible live music performances inside unexpectedly niche venues. Before you book your next trip, take a peek at some of these standout spots, located in some of the world’s most beloved travel destinations.
Travel + shows = the good life.
London, UK
Gray’s Inn
This privately owned estate is home to one of the four Inns of the Court in London. If these walls could talk, they’d spew out Latin and legalese up the wazoo. From its gorgeous outdoor gardens to its esteemed hallowed halls, Gray’s Inn offers a once-in-a-lifetime live music experience. Put simply, this place is no joke. (Did we mention that Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors is said to have been first performed here?)
If you’re in London on July 18th, catch a show at The Marquee!
The Font
Coffee? Check. Beer? Check. Burgers? Check. Indoor climbing gym? Check. Live music venue? Check (it off your bucket list!) The Font is a rock climbing gym situated in the heart of Earlsfield in South West London that just so happens to also host some seriously pulse-raising Sofar performances. This is what people are talking about when they say “I guess my community is the gym.”
Los Angeles, USA
Wonzimer
Translating directly to “living room” in German, Wonzimer is one of the most welcoming, community-forward art spaces you might find across the LA sprawl. The contemporary gallery offers an impressively diverse calendar of exhibitions—and yes, a few unexpected music performances throughout the year. If you’re looking for a trip to LA that includes something more meaningful than an $20 Erewhon smoothie, broaden your cultural horizons at Wonzimer.
The Padel Courts
It’s notoriously difficult to find open court time in LA… partly because LA loves music so much that it is excited to transform the city’s most sought-after padel courts into a live music venue . Get the full LA experience (fitness and entertainment) all at once by catching a Sofar show on the courts. How very CHALLENGERS (2024) of you.
New York City, USA
INTER_
This so-called “cosmic playground” is a dazzling downtown immersion in art and music. INTER_ has two floors of interactive exhibits to visit. When the space becomes transformed for live shows…you’re in for a total trip. For example, this sentence ripped directly from their website says it all: “The founding of INTER_ starts with an INTERdimensional cybrit (cyber-spirit) being known as ‘I’.” We love a cyber chaos moment.
Hall des Lumières
Et voilà! Hall de Lumières is a massive NYC space filled with 130 video projectors, 54 speakers, 22 subwoofers, and a whole world of live music potential. Sofar loves to host shows inside this historic venue, which sits inside the former Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank. Suffice it to say, modern culture is alive and well here.
Virgin Hotel Skyloft
We built this city // We built this city on rock and roll. At the Virgin Hotel Skyloft, you’ll take in sweeping views of Manhattan while witnessing incredible performers at the peak of their craft. Smack dab between the Empire State Building and Flatiron Building, the Virgin Hotel Skyloft can fill your “skyscraper” quota for the trip without having to purchase a $80 elevator ticket.
Madrid, Spain
Hotel Vincci The Mint
Located in the heart of Madrid, but self-described as “very British”, this chic Spanish hotel acts more like an international cultural hub than a mere place to stay. Sofar has hosted shows atop the hotel roof, delivering breathtaking views of Spanish architecture against stunning sunsets. If you missed studying abroad (or if you need to go back to it), this might just be the way to go.
Lima, Peru
Museo Metropolitano de Lima
Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. This historic museum reinvents itself for live music performances in a way that transports you to both the past and the future. Museo Metropolitano was designed in neoclassical style by the French architect Claude Sahut, who also designed many of the most esteemed historic buildings in Lima. Sofar loves hosting shows here. Our local team in Lima even helped to expand the museum’s capacities by recently contributing to the construction of a new children’s reading room. Music and community-building go hand-in-hand.
