A Letter from Rafe, Our Founder:
Friends,
Sofar began in my own living room a decade ago. I’ve been constantly amazed by the calibre of artists and love from listeners, as Sofar has grown to fill living rooms from Buenos Aires to Seoul and many hundreds more. And now, to see the commitment and care our wonderful community has shown returning to in-person Sofars is something I’ve been truly awed by.
Over the summer, my daughters Izzy and Chloe and I went to a backyard Sofar in the U.S. in Louisville, Kentucky. Before we could plant ourselves down on the damp grass, someone reached out and gave us one of their blankets, no questions asked. We were fast friends after that, sharing an evening of live music, taking in the electric feel of it. At another U.S. Sofar in Los Angeles, California, I started chatting with a few others. One seemed quiet, and eventually told me this was her first outing in months after a difficult year. She was nervous to leave home—but her friends had convinced her, saying Sofar would be a good way to ease back into real life. I was deeply moved. Sofar can be a space of welcoming, and healing.
Onward to 2022. The resolution? Let’s keep being here for each other. We need to connect, so let’s do it through live music. You all continue to inspire me as artists, listeners, and community members. Thank you deeply for being part of Sofar.
