Dear friends,
I remember our third ever Sofar show. Way more people showed up than anticipated to a house in central London. I had no idea how we’d accommodate everyone. As if reading our minds, the folks who had come as audience members offered to help us put on the show. Guests helped greet people at the door, move furniture around to ensure there was space for everyone, pour drinks, grab snacks, and help take photos.
Once the music started, I remember the shared glances, the unified rhythms, the collective joy. Music alone is powerful, but when it is shared, it becomes magic.
Sofar’s essence is the unity felt in the room. From our earliest days, music-loving strangers became a real, like-minded community. This is why our events are a sanctuary—whether you come alone, with a date, or with family, you leave with new friends and memories.
Throughout the years, thousands of people across dozens of countries have left our shows feeling connected to one another and the music they discovered. From cozy spaces in Gothenburg to lush gardens in Nairobi to expansive rooftops in Sydney, we tune in together. We’ve seen musicians go from anonymous to arena-headliners; we’ve seen strangers become partners; and we’ve watched friendships spark from the twang of a guitar or the beat of a drum.
I hope Sofar provided people with a bit of a safe haven in 2023. In a world divided, live music can bring us solace. As we embrace 2024, let’s deepen this bond. Join us in this journey of music and community. Share your stories, invite your friends, and create a world fueled by the rhythms that connect us all.
Hope to see you at a Sofar show soon.
With musical regards,
Rafe
