Ah, Seattle, the emerald jewel of the Pacific Northwest, surrounded by bays, lakes, and evergreen forest (and of course, one can’t forget the rain). It’s been home to many independent music movements, and continues to harbor some mighty talented musicians. Here are five Seattle artists we think you should be listening to, asap.
1. Miguel Escobar
Chicago-born and Seattle-based, Miguel Escobar’s music somehow feels familiar and honest. Take this performance, where out of the sonic still haze comes the artist’s raw voice, like it has the slightest husk wrapped around the sweet tone of it. It just feels right—but don’t take our word for it, have a look for yourself.
2. Royce Lovett
Blending R&B and rock into the smoothest sound, this dynamic live performance from Royce Lovett speaks for itself.
3. Shelby Natasha
The way the piano and Shelby Natasha’s voice come together in harmony alongside her sister Mia Christ feel downright crystalline. It’s just the kind of soft pop ballad we love, along with the other 100k viewers who’ve watched this sweet performance over the last two months.
4. TeZATalks
About a second into this performance as TeZATalks gives her dad a shoutout, and we’re hooked on the artist’s charm and sincerity. And then, she takes her cosmic pop song and reshapes it into an acoustic number with just as much star power. You gotta watch the magic happen.
5. Katie Kuffel
Last up, Katie Kuffel, who graced us with this jazzy, lilting number. Her lyrics are expansive, and that combined with the cyclical melodies make it feel like we’re almost inside the song, or the thought process, with the artist. It feels vulnerable, and we’re here for it.
